new music: Minke
Posted by Amy Steele in Music on April 5, 2019

“Too Late” is from London singer/songwriter Minke’s debut EP The Tearoom. Actress/comedian/director Aisha Tyler directed the video which stars (very cute!) actor Jean-Luc Bilodeau from ABC Family’s Baby Daddy.
Minke said: “Songwriting is my therapy. It’s what I’ve done since I first picked up a guitar when I was eleven. It’s the only thing that makes me feel better, so it’s what I do. When people listen to the Tearoom, I hope they get whatever they need from it. It could be reassurance or someone to identify with. That’s what makes me happy. It’s all I can do.”

new music: Fiona Grey; The Drums
Posted by Amy Steele in Music on March 4, 2019
Los Angeles singer/songwriter Fiona Grey explained the new song: “There is a lot about living in a pop culture centered world that we deem as ‘normal behavior’. I hope that the music can remind the listener that this follower-centric, alternate persona universe we live in is all temporary happiness.” She has a beautiful voice and the song makes a powerful statement. The EP Cult Classic is out now.
About The Drums dreamy and contemplative new pop song, Jonny Pierce said: “I’m a big believer in making yourself vulnerable in personal relationships, and keeping your guard down. This song talks about how I sometimes make myself fully emotionally available to people who can’t reciprocate because of their own insecurities, and the frustration that ensues … This song is my tongue-in-cheek exploration of those ideas – being kind, not taking shit from anyone, and learning to hold people accountable for their own choices, while still holding some empathy for them.” The Drums fifth album Brutalism is out April 5, 2019. They’re on tour this spring.

new music: James
Posted by Amy Steele in Music on August 2, 2018

One of my favorite British bands, James, releases its 15th studio album, Living in Extraordinary Times, tomorrow, August 3, 2018. I haven’t had a chance to hear the entire album but expect to like it as much as the past release Girl at the End of the World. Vocalist Tim Booth explained the title: “We knew something was up when Leicester city won the league then Brexit, then Trump. It is as if we’d slipped into an alternate reality, a Philip K Dick reality. We are living in extraordinary times.”
After signing to Factory Records in 1982, James went on to release popular singles such as “Sit Down,” She’s a Star” and “Laid” over the past three decades. James has sold 25 million albums worldwide and has performed all over the world. The band continues to tour although hasn’t toured the United States in a while.
track list:
Hank
Coming Home (Pt.2)
Leviathan
Heads
Many Faces
How Hard The Day
Extraordinary Times
Picture Of This Place
Hope To Sleep
Better Than That
Mask
What’s It All About
On new single “Hank,” Tim criticizes American politics and sings: “A jester prancing like a fool/In jest digest the monster/This president’s a dangerous tool”.
