Hydrogen Child, “Sirens”
Why did you change your name to Hydrogen Child? I liked Super Water Sympathy. oh well. much complication and contemplation in band names. Here’s the video for the upbeat new song from the EP due out new year by the shimmer-pop Louisiana band. “Let’s start a riot/I’m sick of the silence/Yeah, we’re getting louder/So bring on the sirens.” Ansley Rimmer exudes such power and confidence with that voice.
Krill, “Torturer”
Here’s the first single from Boston band Krill’s third full length, A Distant Fist Unclenching, due out February 17 [Exploding In Sound / Double Double Whammy]. twangy. guttural. complex lyrics. hypnotizing drum beat. cool bass riffs.

Yaarrohs, “Wrestle”
ethereal prettiness. just the kind of electronic music I adore. dreamy. dark. mesmerizing energy. debut EP, Flesh & Blood out now. purchase at Amazon: Flesh & Blood
The Maytags, “Anthem”
The Maytags must be a lot of fun live. grooving, grinding, rootsy and swanky. The Des Moines, Iowa soul band–led by Dustin Smith who studied and played jazz in New York– has an EP NOVA out now.
Moonbabies, “The Ocean Kill”
boy-girl vocals and synthpop never sounded so good. a little bit 80s and retro, a little bit atmospheric and futuristic. definitely dreamy and luscious. Moonbabies upcoming album will be released in late spring 2015.

Moonbabies, “Raindrops”
–dreamy pop by Swedish husband and wife duo, Carina Johansson Frick and Ola Frick. just wonderful with layers of joy and spirit.
Dads, “I’ll Be the Tornado”
–reminiscent of Sonic Youth and The Replacements, New Jersey alt-rockers Dads have a new album out–I’ll Be the Tornado[6131 Records]– and are on tour. Recorded by Neil Strauch (Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Iron & Wine, Owen) at MinBal Studio in Chicago, IL and mastered by Carl Saff (Dinosaur Jr., Guided By Voices, Speedy Ortiz) which explains the retro-cool sound.

Tiny Moving Parts, “Entrances and Exits”
–the Minn. band launched mini versions of themselves into space for the song’s extremely cool video. Pleasant Living [Triple Crown Records] is out now.
“We sent three bobble heads replicas of ourselves into space using a 600 gram weather balloon,” explains singer/guitarist Dylan Matthiesen of Tiny Moving Parts. “The 2 hour flight was captured by a GoPro camera enclosed in a styrofoam cooler alongside a GPS tracker and a stack of heat packs to help brave the -60 degree F (-15 C) temperatures. The spacecraft reached a height of over 80,000 ft (24,384 meters), capturing the Earth’s curve and the beauty of a world just beyond our grasp.”
Aiden Jude, “Words” ft Lilly Anne Merat
–NYC DJ/producer Aiden Jude uses luscious trance-beats to bolster the gorgeous lyrics by Lilly Anne Merat. the stand-out on this track is Lilly’s strong yet alluring vocals.
