Nick Jaina: music review
Posted by Amy Steele in Music on June 26, 2011
Portland, Ore. composer/songwriter Nick Jaina wrote and recorded songs and then asked different women singers to sing the lead vocals. This entire project stands out with its appreciation of talented female vocalists with distinctive voices. Jaina must be applauded for this. “You Were So Good to Me” offers a dark, edgy lounge-act feel with Jolie Holland singing. Annalisa Tornfelt from Black Prairie brings heartache and wistfulness to “Whiskey Riddle.” “The President of the Chess Club” grooves with an alt-country vibe as Amanda Spring from Point Juncture WA sings it. The impressive range of moods, vocals and compositions makes this an eclectic collection that will appeal to many listeners.
