Imelda May: music review
Posted by Amy Steele in Music on August 5, 2011
Jazz, rockabilly, surf, rock all blend together and complement Imelda May’s bold, distinctive voice on her second album. She transports you with each song’s varied instrumentation and reflective lyrics. Sometimes I’m reminded a bit of Squirrel Nut Zippers and singer Katherine Whalen. May’s throaty vocals catapult the jive-bouncy “Pulling the Rug.”She combines surf instrumental and country twang on “Eternity.”On the slower and bluesy “Too Sad to Cry,” there’s a New Orleans vibe. May does a rootsy, fabulous cover of “Tainted Love.” Mayhem is a fun, strong and passionate album from this Irish singer.
