Rachel Platten: music review

Singing in the same pop vein as Lily Allen [with less snarky] and Kate Nash, Brooklyn-based, Boston native Rachel Platten includes underlying cerebral, often serious-minded messages amidst catchy chords and dulcet vocals. Be Here is an effervescent collection of upbeat pop songs. Platten showcases her Berklee College of Music training through her vocal range and creative arrangements. There’s the infectious rhythm of “Nothing Ever Happens: “nothing ever happens if you don’t get hurt/ nothing ever happens if you never get dirty,” while on “Don’t Care What Time It Is,” Platten shows her soulful nature. Things are sweet and mellow on the inspirational “Little Light.” Be Here is a fantastic, kicky album to charge you up for anything.
my picks:
“Nothing Ever Happens”
“Don’t Care What Time It is”
“1000 Ships”
