From a musical family [her grandmother was a vocalist for the Benny Goodman Orchestra and her grandfather the composer of “The Little Drummer Boy”], Laura Stevenson started with classical training and veered off on her own in her teen by playing with Long Island punk rock collective Bomb The Music Industry. She also composed quieter indie rock/folk songs on the side. Brooklyn-based Laura Stevenson & the Cans will release its sophomore album Sit Resist on April 26.
The Sparta Philharmonic are the multi-instrumental New Jersey sibling duo of Greg and Alex Bortnichak. The brothers have been politically active in different ways. Greg writes about feminist and queer issues, publishing essays on men and feminism as well as contemporary political issues concerning the queer community. Alex became a pilot and worked towards his degree in Political Science while campaigning hard for progressive candidates and causes in and around Philadelphia.
–When brothers Ciaran [vox/guitar] and Criostoir Daly [bass] moved from the UK to Minneapolis, they formed The Idle Hands with Eileen Omizo-Whittenberg [keys], Al Wires [guitar] and Nicco Franz Huber[drums].
