Ash Reiter: music review

Former schoolteacher and singer/songwriter Ash Reiter brings a sunny, retro conversational vibe to the band’s newest release. She’s immensely talented, sweet and soulful. Her formally trained band-mates– brothers Scott Brown (bass) and Drew Brown (guitar), boyfriend Will Halsey (drums) and Anthony Ferraro (keys)– allow Ash to shine through striking arrangements. The refreshing, upbeat “I’ve Got Something I Can Laugh About” opens this charming album. Ash stretches into the slower, deeper tone of “Ex-Favorite One” while “Rossini Got You Dancing” pops and twists with a groovy wa-wa rhythm. “2012” features enthusiastic Caribbean drum beats. Hola should appeal to a myriad of listeners. It’s definitely a shimmery cool soundtrack for any party.
